Hadean Eon
Earths Formation
Earth formed about 4.6 billion years ago (BYA) by celestial masses, big and small, crashing and melting together due to the decay of radioactive elements. As earth gained mass, its gravitational pull also increased, which caused more materials to crash into earth. Soon though, earth would be the size it is today.
During the Eon
In the beginning, earth was a giant sphere of molten lava. Since it wasn't suitable for life due to its high concentration of either Carbon Dioxide or Nitrogen, life didn't come until the end of the eon. Some geologists argue that during the Hadean eon, the earth's atmosphere was also composed of water vapor and volcanic gases that would have come from the continual eruptions of many volcanoes. Many geologists believe the earth was too hot during the Hadean Eon for water to condense, turn from vapor to liquid. There is younger rock evidence that suggests water began to condense, leaving some amount of surface water.
The Moon
Many geologists believe the moon was formed by a collision between the earth and what was then a smaller than earth mass. The collision then added mass to earth and subtracted mass from what became the moon. The moon then 'bounced' off of earth after the collision and began to orbit earth. Since then, the moon has been moving away from earth at about 3.8 cm per year because of an outward push on the moon by the inner spinning motion of earth. It works like a roundabout at a playground.
ETC.
The term Hadean comes from the Greek word Hades, which was the name of the under lord in their religion. It was given to this particular time because the earths atmosphere was considered hellish.
